Some of our curriculum Goals for Early Pre-Kindergarten
Basics Child should know:
- First name(and last name), age, gender, and phone number
- Speak clearly enough so that people other than their own family and friends can understand them
- Feed themselves neatly using a fork or a spoon
- Clean up their messes, food and toys
- Go to bathroom, without help, can wipe themselves and remember to wash their hands/face and flush the toilet
- Learning how to tie their shoes and use the buttons,snaps zippers, and buckles of their clothing
- Be comfortable being away from their parents or caregiver, and be comfortable with new adults and children.
- Understand that in school, children are expected to do what their teachers ask
- Can walk in carrying their own belongings and put them away in their cubbies
- Knows where their belongings
- Be able to get their own lunch from their cubby, and have it ready to eat
- Be able to throw trash in garbage can
- Can open their lunch items, and knows what to eat first, sit calmly, and eat lunch
Social Skills:
- Understand that other people have rights and feelings just as they do
- Uses their words effectively to others to express needs, feelings, and thoughts in a socially acceptable way
- Ask questions in a conversation, and make eye contact when talking with teacher & others
- Sits quietly for at least 10 minutes and
- Play with a toy, concentrate on a task, listen to a story, and concentrate on a task
- Keep themselves occupied with toys and socializes with others without help
- Play peacefully with other children, shares, listen to their peers words and conflict resolution
- Can follow directions. (two step and three step directions) follow class work with teacher
- Can play simple games
- Beginning to understand concept of games (winning/losing) & able to play & follow rules of the game
- Beginning to facilitate games with peers, making rules for the games and communicate idea of game
- Be able to stay on their mat calmly and quietly,
- Know the difference between sad, happy, and mad
- Be able to say please and thank you
- Be able to respect, treat other with kindness, and use their manners
Language Development
- Use language effectively to express his or her wants and needs,
- Can speak in sentences using 6 to 8 words
- Can recognize letters and familiar words
- May be able to print his or her own name and last name
- Is asking a lot of questions.
- Enjoys sharing information with adults and other children (Tell stories and can explain what happens to him/ her)
- Rhyming words
